A Creative Hiatus: Diving into Abstract Photography and Painting

For the past few weeks, my blog has been silent, a quiet testament to the whirlwind of creativity that has taken over my life. I stepped away from regular updates to immerse myself in a complex and rewarding project: sorting through my extensive collection of abstract photos and preparing them for a new collection. As any artist can attest, balancing multiple creative endeavours is a delicate dance, and this project demanded my full attention. Today, I’m excited to share a glimpse into this journey and the exhilarating process of blending my passion for photography and painting.

The Genesis of a Collection

My love for abstract photography began as a spontaneous experiment, a way to capture the world around me in a new, unstructured form. Over the years, this hobby evolved into a substantial body of work, each photo a unique expression of colour, light, and texture. When I decided to create a collection, I didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of the task ahead. With hundreds of photos stored on various devices, organizing them felt akin to piecing together an intricate puzzle.

Sorting through my photos was both a nostalgic and enlightening experience. Each image held a story, a moment of inspiration captured through my lens. The challenge lay in curating a cohesive collection that not only showcased the diversity of my work but also told a unified story. I found myself drawn to certain themes and patterns, such as the interplay of shadows and light or the vibrant explosion of colours in urban settings. This process of selection was intuitive yet meticulous, requiring me to look at my work with fresh eyes and a critical mind.

Working on the technical aspects of my photos was another layer of complexity. Ensuring each image met the highest standards of quality involved numerous hours of editing. Adjusting contrast, refining compositions, and enhancing colours/black & white were all part of the process. I wanted each photo to resonate with viewers, evoking emotions and sparking their imagination. While the editing process was time-consuming, it was also incredibly rewarding. Seeing a raw image transform into a polished piece of art was a reminder of why I fell in love with abstract photography in the first place.

Parallel to my work on the photo collection, I continued to explore my passion for painting. My paintings often serve as a counterpoint to my photographs, offering a tactile and immersive creative outlet. While photography captures fleeting moments, painting allows me to delve into the depths of my imagination, translating abstract concepts into tangible forms.
Interestingly, the interplay between these two mediums has been a source of inspiration. Techniques and ideas from my photography often seep into my paintings, and vice versa. The colours and dynamic compositions in my photos have influenced my brushwork, leading to a fusion of styles that feels uniquely my own. This cross-pollination of ideas has enriched both my photographic and painterly practices, creating a harmonious blend of visual expressions.

Looking Ahead: The Summer Launch

As I continue to work on finalizing my photo collection, my excitement builds. I hope to unveil this new body of work by the end of the summer, sharing it with a wider audience. The journey has been one of discovery, patience, and relentless creativity. Each step, from sorting and editing to conceptualizing and painting, has brought me closer to realizing my vision.
The upcoming collection will be a celebration of abstract beauty, an invitation for viewers to explore the world through my lens. I envision it as a vibrant tapestry of colours and forms, each photo a window into the endless possibilities of abstract art. It’s my hope that this collection will inspire others to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, to appreciate the nuances of light and shadow, and to find beauty in unexpected places.

While the completion of this collection is a significant milestone, it’s far from the end of my creative journey. My passion for both photography and painting continues to evolve, and I’m constantly seeking new ways to push the boundaries of my art. Each project is a learning experience, a chance to refine my skills and explore new ideas.
In the coming months, I plan to delve deeper into the synergy between my photos and paintings, experimenting with mixed media and exploring how these two forms can complement and enhance each other. I’m also looking forward to sharing more insights and updates on this blog, offering a behind-the-scenes look at my creative process.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this brief hiatus. Stepping away from regular posts was a necessary step to fully dedicate myself to this project, and I’m grateful for the space to create. I’m excited to share the fruits of my labor with you soon and to continue this journey together.
Art, in all its forms, is a continuous process of growth and exploration. Whether through the lens of a camera or the strokes of a brush, I’m committed to pushing the boundaries of my creativity and sharing that journey with you. Stay tuned for the unveiling of my abstract photo collection and for more insights into the world of my art.
Until then, keep exploring, creating, and finding inspiration in the world around you.
